Grace and elegance personified, to this day Majid Khan is regarded as one of the finest batters to come out of Pakistan. Hailing from Ludhiana, Punjab, Majid made his international debut for Pakistan against Australia in 1964.

It is a little-known fact that Majid started his career as a fast bowler but a back injury and suspicion about his actions forced him to be a part-time off-spinner. He eventually made his international debut as a spinner. Khan showed his skill with the ball in hand as he finished with figures of 55/2 in 30 overs with nine maidens. He backed it up with another impressive performance and dismissed Bill Lawry.

His exploits with the bat quickly moved him to the top of the order and from there on Majid Khan never looked back. Alongside, Sadiq Mohammad, he formed one of the most successful opening pairs of his time. In 26 innings together, the pair scored 1,391 runs at an astounding average of 60.47 with 147 their highest partnership coming against New Zealand at the National Stadium Karachi.

In an era where pitches were notoriously hard to bat on, Majid stood up to the tallest of challenges with his tenacity and fluent stroke play. Effortless cover drives piercing through the tiny gaps and dominating pull shots were his hallmark.

In a career spanning over two decades, Khan represented Pakistan in 63 Tests scoring 3,931 runs at 38.91. The right-hander hit 8 centuries and 19 fifties. In October 1976, against New Zealand in NSK, he became the fourth batter in the history of the game to score a hundred before lunch.

Khan made his ODI debut in 1973 and holds the record for being the first Pakistani centurion in the format. The opener featured for the national side in 23 matches scoring 783 runs. The most incredible part about his ODI career is the fact he had a strike rate in excess of 74.

At the first class level, Majid broke all kinds of records while playing for Glamorgan, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Lahore, Queensland, etc. The elegant right-hander amassed 27,444 runs in 410 games at an average of 43. Majid struck whopping 73 centuries and 128 fifties with 241 being his highest score.
