Former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq says Babar Azam needs to 'sharpen himself up tactically' as a captain.

Babar was reinstated as Pakistan's white-ball captain recently by the new PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Azam had stepped down as Pakistan's all-format captain following a poor show in last year's 50-over World Cup in India. Shaheen Shah Afridi was named his replacement to lead the T20I side while Shan Masood was given the task of leading Pakistan's Test side.

"Experience always enhances the captaincy, and there is always room for improvement," said Misbah-ul-Haq in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.

"Babar needs to be stronger tactically. He needs to improve tactically on the mistakes we noticed in the past.

Misbah also added that Babar needs to back the players for the right reasons.

"One thing Babar did well was rallying the team together at the start of the T20 World Cup, backing the players," he said.

Babar needs to try to back the players for the right reasons, not for the wrong ones. This is something Babar needs to learn. Secondly, he needs to be better tactically as a captain," he further added.
