Quetta Gladiators romped past Peshawar Zalmi in the finals to seal their maiden Pakistan Super League title.

With a relatively low total to chase down, Gladiators went past Zalmi courtesy an unbeaten 51-ball 58 from Ahmed Shehzad.

Zalmi needed early wickets after posting a modest total on the board and Umar Amin gave his side the much-needed breakthrough by catching the dangerous Watson short of his crease.

Despite losing Watson early, Gladiators remained in control of the run-chase with Ahmed Shehzad and Ahsan Ali at the crease.

Wahab Riaz then raised some hopes of a fightback when he removed middle-order batsman Ahsan Ali with a fast short pitched delivery.

That didn’t bother Quetta as much with Shehzad forming a solid 72-run partnership with Rilee Rossouw to complete a rather comfortable chase for their side.

Earlier, Zalmi posted 138 in their 20 overs, after Gladiators won the toss and opted to field first.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed in the second over, beaten for pace by the young Mohammad Hasnain who later on finished with three wickets.

Kamran Akmal got to 21 off 14 balls when he was deceived superbly by a slower, loopy ball from Mohammad Nawaz which went on to crash onto the stumps.

The duo of Amin and Maqsood tried to put the innings back on track, but couldn’t quite capitalize on their starts, falling for 38 and 20 respectively.

Zalmi kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, losing half the side for 96 in 15 overs.

Skipper Darren Sammy, along with all-rounder Kieron Pollard and Wahab Riaz could only accumulate 42 runs in the last five overs.

Mohammad Hasnain bagged three wickets while Dwayne Bravo bagged two wickets.
